James Ray Sloan

January 28, 1959 ~ March 18, 2022 (age 63)

James always wanted to be a part of aviation.  He just loved flying and aircrafts of all types.
After graduating high school in 1977, he left Jay, OK to serve in the United States Navy.  After boot training and aviation maintenance training, he was attached to the VF-114 Fighting Aardvarks and performed maintenance activities on the F-14 Tomcat.  Ejection seats, air conditioning and oxygen systems were his main responsibilities.  He had high praises for his unit as being the hottest fighter squadron in the Pacific fleet.  Two years in a row winning the Navy’s Golden Tailhook Award and scoring highest in gunnery.
After the period of service to his country, James returned to Oklahoma and went through commercial pilot training at Spartan School of Aeronautics. Ultimately earning his Flight Instructor rating and landing a job as flight instructor with Midland Flyers Inc., in Miami, OK.
The early 80’s oil bust caused considerable financial burdens on many businesses, especially small businesses.  He was working the small airport northeast of Ketchum and was forced out of aviation.
James turned to truck driving and ran the lower 48 states and Canada off and on for about 20 years.  And worked as a disc jockey for K.I.T.O radio for about 26 months out of a 3-year period. Ultimately retiring from truck driving in 2009.
James lived the rest of his life on his 5 acres south of Jay.  James was baptized July 1, 2018, at Mt. Hermon Church east of Jay and enjoyed reading the Bible and studying God’s word.  We’re living in difficult times. James hopes members of his family will develop an interest in the love God has for all of us and pursue a knowledge of His Word.  Then earnestly seek God’s gift of everlasting life.
I’ll be meeting the judges and hope they find me acceptable.
