Zena(Jay)

Steven Gregory Dyer, a devoted teacher and Pastor who touched the lives of many, passed away on May 10, 2024, in Zena, Oklahoma. He was born on November 23, 1958, in Claremore, Oklahoma, where he was welcomed by his loving parents, Gerald and Barbara Dyer, and soon joined by the arrival of his two brothers, Danny and Marty. Steve enjoyed spending summers on his Grandpa’s farm, where his love for horses was kindled. In high school, Steve found the love of his life Cindi; they were married in 1980 and together they raised three children, one through the gift of adoption. During their 43 years of marriage, Steve and Cindi served together in various ministries across the globe.

Steve served as a Pastor for 27 years, a role in which he flourished. Education also played a vital role in Steve’s life.  He earned a master’s degree in public policy from Regent University, and later spent eight years teaching school on both the high school and university level. He loved history and was a gifted teacher who could entertain through stories. He was able to use his gift of teaching for overseas ministry in several countries and he helped to start and support a Bible College in Cuba.

Steve's love for horses was evident in everything he did. One of his proudest accomplishments was breaking a wild Mustang horse in 100 days and competing with it in the 2017 Extreme Mustang Makeover. He was also proud of the fact that he rode down the entire Grand Canyon trail on a mule. He competed in many horse competitions such as the National ACHA, where he was a 2023 High Point Winner in the IN Hand II class. In 2020, Steve and Cindi moved back to Oklahoma where he was able to pursue what he called his “semi-retirement dream job” of opening a business where he trained horses and taught riding lessons. Steve has two YouTube channels—one dedicated to horse training videos and the other sharing sermons involving horses. Steve also authored two books which are still available on Amazon.

His memory will forever be cherished by his surviving family: his wife Cindi Dyer, father Gerald Dyer, son Luke Dyer and his wife Amy, daughters Jessica Tuttle and her husband David and Keneesha Stoner and her husband Richard, brothers Danny Dyer and his wife Drenna and Marty Dyer and his wife Karen, as well as 6 grandchildren. Steven is now reunited with his mother, Barbara Dyer. In addition to his family, Steve will be deeply missed by his neighbors, friends, church family- both past and present, friends in the ministry, riding students, and countless others whose lives he touched. He tirelessly poured his life into others and was a spiritual father and mentor to many.

Steven's life will be honored at a service to celebrate his memory & legacy on May 17, 2024, at Newsong Church in Grove, Oklahoma, starting at 10:00 AM. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Zena Cemetery in Jay, Oklahoma.
