Obituary

Paula Denise Prins, born on September 5, 1964, in Jay, Oklahoma, passed away on February 12, 2026, at the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City while awaiting an organ transplant, surrounded by her loving husband and children. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Paula’s life was characterized by her unwavering dedication to family and community, as well as her strength and resilience in the face of ongoing health challenges.

Paula graduated from Grove High School, class of 1982, and went on to build a successful career as an office secretary for CAPP construction. She also served as secretary for the Butler Volunteer Fire Department, where she made significant contributions as a member of the board of trustees. Her professional accomplishments reflected a lifetime of diligence, service, and support for those around her.

Paula was Baptist by faith, and her spirit was defined by her cheerful personality and infectious laugh, which left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Even during her health journey, she faced each day with courage and grace. She cherished spending time watching her grandchildren play sports and was a devoted OSU football fan. In her leisure moments, Paula enjoyed watching soap operas (General Hospital and All My Children) and game shows, and her extraordinary cooking skills were a highlight of many family gatherings. She also loved taking trips to the beach with her best friend Becky, creating memories she treasured deeply.

Paula is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Randy Prins, her high school sweetheart, their son, Todd Prins; and daughter, Missy Skaggs. She also held a special place in her heart for her honorary daughter, Vanessa Hernandez; brother, Taylor Tanner; and step-sister, Angie Shepherd. Paula was a proud grandmother to Hagen Sumter, Livvy Sumter, Bentli Prins, Liam Prins, Jayleigh Prins, and Jackson Prins. Her legacy continues through her many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Joann (Downing) Tanner; her sister, Amanda Tanner; and her son-in-law, Justin Skaggs. Paula’s absence will be deeply felt by all who loved her.
