Onial Lemual Cook, a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2025, in Jay, Oklahoma, at the age of 93.
Born on May 25, 1932, in Kingston, Arkansas, to Arlie and Vennie (Randall) Cook, Onial lived a full and vibrant life marked by service, hard work, adventure, and deep love for his family and country.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Onial served aboard the USS Vesuvius, where he formed lifelong bonds with his fellow sailors. He remained connected with his naval community through annual reunions with the AE/AOE/Aux Sailors Association.
Following his military service, Onial built a diverse and industrious career, working as a truck driver before becoming a produce department manager for Dillions Grocery. His strong work ethic and friendly demeanor left lasting impressions on coworkers and customers alike.
Onial was a man of bold spirit and joyful adventure. He celebrated his 75th birthday by skydiving—a testament to his fearless nature. A devoted Arkansas Razorbacks fan, he cheered them on in every sport with great enthusiasm.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Catherine Carlock and her husband Joe, and Onna Newell and her husband Curtis. He also leaves behind three grandchildren—Bryant Newell, Julie Lacey, and Randy Carr—and several great-grandchildren who will always cherish his memory.
Onial was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Deree Cook (1997); his significant other, Joyce Bridges (May 2025); his son, Billy Cook; one brother; and two sisters.
A graveside service on Monday, June 16, 2025, at Friendship Cemetery in Springdale, Arkansas. The service will begin at 1:00 PM, providing an opportunity for family and friends to gather in reflection.
His legacy of service, adventure, and family devotion will continue to inspire all who knew him.
