Karen Sue (Lowe) Haas, born on February 28, 1946, in Wichita, Kansas, passed away on July 28, 2025, in Grove, Oklahoma. A devoted professional and cherished member of her community, Karen’s extensive career spanned over several decades, reflecting her deep commitment to education, health care, and youth support.
Throughout her career, Karen served as a 15-year board member of both the Wichita Medical Manager Association and the Kansas Medical Managers Association, where she played a significant role in improving medical management practices. Her dedication extended to providing compassionate support as a telephone counselor for the Wichita Youth Crisis Hotline, demonstrating her commitment to helping young people in times of need. In education, she thrived as a certified special education teacher assistant in Oklahoma and as a Spanish teacher at Turkey Ford Elementary School, making a lasting impact on her students. Additionally, she worked as a tutor for JOM students and served as a triage nurse at the Christian Free Clinic in Grove, Oklahoma, showcasing her versatility and dedication to service.
Karen graduated from Halstead High School in 1964, Fullerton Junior College in 1969, and Cal State Fullerton in 1974, earning her bachelor's degree, which solidified her foundation for her professional achievements and her lifelong commitment to learning. She also contributed her time and talents to St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she held the dual roles of treasurer and playing the organ, blending her love for music with her commitment to community service.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Karen had a rich tapestry of interests that included art, piano, organ, playing the dulcimer, and creating beautiful floral arrangements. David and Karen shared a love for travel, exploring more than 70 countries together.
Karen is survived by her husband, Robert "David" Haas, and her two daughters, Kelli Morrison and her husband Chris, and Deepika Walpita. She leaves behind a loving family that includes her siblings, Buddy Martin and five sisters: Joan, Hazel, Janet, Mary, and Damon Jr. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Damon Matthew Lowe and Queenie Ellen (Smith) Bockhays.
Her contributions to her community and her family will be remembered with fondness, and she will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, August 1, 2025, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairland, Oklahoma with Reverend Leo Schroder officiating. In leu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Turkey Ford Schools Library Fund, 23900 S. 670 Road, Wyandotte, OK 74370.
