Jack Edward Massey, born on January 10, 1939, in Denison, Texas, passed away on October 31, 2025, in Grove, Oklahoma. Jack dedicated over 35 years of his life working for the Department of Human Services, where he was a tireless advocate for developmentally disabled children and adults. His commitment and passion for his work remained undiminished throughout his career, bringing joy and support to countless families.
After earning his Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Oklahoma State University, Jack embarked on a fulfilling career that would leave a lasting impact on his community. He retired at the age of 54 in 1994, choosing to spend his later years enjoying life to the fullest.
In March of 1986, Jack married his beloved wife, Buddie Massey. The couple made their home in Norman, Oklahoma, before retiring to Grand Lake in 2001, where Jack could indulge in his love for fishing. He took great pleasure in teaching Buddie how to fish and spent many serene days crappie fishing on the lake, surrounded by nature.
Jack was not only a devoted husband and a dedicated professional but also a passionate traveler. Throughout his retirement, he visited every state in the nation, as well as international destinations in Ireland, Europe, and Vancouver Island. His zest for life and exploration inspired those around him.
He was proud of his family and played an active role in their lives, especially in promoting the value of education. Jack's legacy lives on through his children: daughter Keely Barger, son Michael Massey, step-daughter Nathalee Johnston, step-son Joel Graham, and #5 Sevilla Vance Cortassa. He cherished his grandchildren Matthew Massey, Rachel Massey, Joseph Barger, Jacob Massey, Reece Holden, Cayce Holden Ceniza, as well as his great-grandchildren Taylor Holden, Brighton Holden, and Julian Ceniza.
Jack is preceded in death by his father Bill Massey, mother Thelma (Brock) Massey, and brother Bill Massey. He will be remembered for his kindness, his dedication to family, and his unwavering belief in the dreams of his grandchildren. Jack Edward Massey will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. HALLELUJAH!!!
Memorial services will be 11 a.m., November 13, 2025, at South Grand Lake Christian Church, 446205 E 350 Rd, Vinita, OK 74301 with Rev. Gina Jackson officiating.
