Earl Leon Raney, lovingly known as “Short Dog”, passed away on June 1, 2025, at the Integris Grove Hospital ER at the age of 79. Earl was born on August 26, 1945, in Picher, Oklahoma. He lived a life of hard work, playful humor, and a commitment to helping others.
Earl worked as a boilermaker, a profession that requires a strong work ethic. His motto to live by was, "If it's worth doing… it's worth doing right the first time”.
Earl’s hobbies included motorcycles, fishing, tinkering with his truck, and spending quality time with family and friends. He enjoyed going to the local coffee shops, where he often caught up on the news and visited with friends.
Earl is survived by his wife, Jamie (Custer) Raney; his children, Robert Raney and his wife Lisa, Danielle Ford, Michael Raney and his wife Chelsea; stepdaughter, Skylar Black, his siblings, David Edward Reading of Jay, Glenda Jeanette Jobe, of Bradenton, Florida, Melody Sue Williams of Jay, and Kenneth Wayne Raney and his wife, Sharon, Jay. Earl will be dearly missed by his 14 grandchildren, A. J. Raney, Logan Raney, Lexi Raney, Aidan Raney, Collin Raney, Brennan Raney, Brooklyn Raney, Gracie Raney, Emily Ford, Riley Ford, Kelsey Ford, Tobias Daniels, Raegan Raney, Krue Raney and great granddaughter Addalynn Mauney.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Wanda (Pierce) Raney, and his brother, Larry Raney, and grandson Drake Raney.
Visitation will be held on June 11, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, located at 711 S Main St, Grove, OK 74344. A funeral service will follow immediately after from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the same location. Earl will be laid to rest in the Greenlawn Cemetery located in Columbus, Kansas.
