Doris Jean Nelson was born Doris Jean Cupps on March 30, 1941, to Milton Cupps and Irene Crews. She was raised in the town of Disney, Oklahoma.  Doris graduated high school in 1959 from Jay High School where she met her husband, Jerry Dean Nelson.  Doris and Jerry were married at the Delaware Baptist Church on November 22, 1959. 

The couple lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma when Jerry finished his service in the United States Air Force.  They moved from Tulsa to Jay, finally settling in Grove.  Jerry purchased a beautiful plot of land in 1970 to raise their family.  Jerry and Doris had one beautiful daughter, Lisa, and three sons, Jason, Peter, and Preston. 

Doris worked and retired from Wal-Mart in Grove.  She loved to travel, cook, read, take care of her grandchildren, and she was a desired partner when playing Pitch.  After retirement, Doris was generous in community service.  She volunteered at the Christian Mission Thrift Store and on the Delaware County election board.  She was an avid gardener, so much so that, after taking classes, she achieved the level of master gardener.    She was a member of many clubs in and around Grove, including: the Sweet Annies Herb Club.

Doris is proceeded in death by: husband Jerry Dean Nelson, grandson Patrick Prochaska, and dear friend Chris Bolton. 

She is survived by her children: Lisa Nelson, Jason Nelson, Peter Nelson, and Preston Nelson and their spouses, Tom, Syrina, Christie, Elizabeth.

Her Grandchildren: Hannah Prochaska Slayton, her husband, Larris, Jacob Nelson, his wife Sonnie, Shaneigh Darnell, her husband Eric, Jordon Nelson, his wife Alexis, William Nixon, his wife Brooke, Colby Nelson, Luke Nelson and Scout Nelson. 

Her Great-Grandchildren: Canyon, Lucas and Eva, Eric, Jr., Anaiyah, Aybreanna and Javon, and Andrew, William and Matthew.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 24, 2023 at Zena Cemetery.
