Doris Christine (Sapp) Garis departed this life on July 29, 2026, in Grove, Oklahoma, surrounded by the love of her family. Born August 25, 1944, in Cochran, Georgia, Doris lived 81 vibrant years defined by deep devotion to family, an adventurous spirit, and a boundless compassion that left a lasting mark on everyone she encountered.

From a young age, Doris approached life with boldness and curiosity. She once raced cars with spirited determination and later earned a brown belt in taekwondo, quiet proof of her tenacity, discipline, and willingness to embrace new challenges at any age. She took her two boys all over the world, fearlessly taking bold steps even when she could not see the end of the road, modeling courage and possibility for those she loved most. Yet it was her nurturing heart that truly defined her. Doris served as a caretaker not only to her own family but to the wider community. As a steadfast volunteer at the VA in Broken Arrow, she brought comfort and practical help to those who needed it most. As an assistant Scout Master, she invested herself in young people, patiently teaching resilience, responsibility, and kindness that many of those Scouts carried into adulthood.

Doris loved people with a genuine openness that made strangers feel seen and family feel cherished. She delighted in gathering loved ones around the table for home-baked treats, in the quiet satisfaction of crafting quilts and keepsakes with her skilled hands, and in the simple joy of travel - especially when it meant time with family. Her competitive streak sparkled at the gin rummy table, and she cheered with equal enthusiasm for stock-car racing and OU football. Through every season of life, her quiet faith guided her actions and anchored her through challenges, shaping a presence that friends and family consistently described the same way: Doris truly loved people, meeting each one with an open heart and genuine kindness.

She found her deepest joy in her family, treasuring every moment with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. Doris is survived by her beloved sons: Lee Harpe and his wife Marcy, Steve Harpe and his wife Melony, and Robert Stell and his wife Jennie. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren - Jillian Harpe, Ethan Harpe, Jenna Harpe, and Austin Dail and his wife Melissa - and her great-grandchild Amory Dail, with two additional great-grandchildren on the way. She is also survived by her loving sisters, Linda Meadors and her husband Mike and Vickie Keyton and her husband Billy.

Preceding her in death are her father Ralph, her mother Linnie Sapp, her cherished husband Charles Garis, her brother Ralph Sapp Jr., her sister Margaret Douglas, and her brother Alton Sapp.

The family will receive friends for visitation at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home, 711 S Main St, Grove, Oklahoma, on Thursday, July 31, 2026, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A funeral service honoring Doris’s life and legacy will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the same location. Burial rites will be held later that day at 2:30 p.m. at Fort Gibson National Cemetery, 1423 Cemetery Rd, Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.

Doris’s greatest gift was the way she made people feel valued and cared for. That quiet, consistent impact—and the bold example she set—lives on in the lives she touched.
