Claire Eighmy

Claire A. Eighmy, age 88 and resident of rural Bartlesville, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2019 at her residence.

Claire Albina Proulx was born on November 16, 1930 in North Attleboro, Massachusetts.  She was the daughter of Edward Proulx and Anna (Poirier) Proulx.  She was raised in the North Attleboro community where she attended high school.  Claire received her Bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1952.  In her early years, she lived in Ithaca, New York, Norfolk, Virginia, Charleston, South Carolina, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mesa, Arizona and North Attleboro, Massachusetts before moving to Bartlesville.   She worked as an RN throughout her life.

On January 3, 1953, Claire and John Clinton Eighmy were united in marriage at North Attleboro, and they made their first home in Ithaca, New York.  Mr. Eighmy was serving as an instructor with the NROTC Program at Cornell University with the U.S. Navy.  In 1977, the couple moved to Bartlesville.  In Bartlesville, Claire and John were members of St. John Before the Latin Gate Catholic Church where she also taught first grade, Faith Formation.  Mr. Eighmy passed away on April 15, 1992 and Claire had continued her residence in Bartlesville since that time.

In her long nursing career, Claire worked for Elder Care in Bartlesville where she retired.  She enjoyed sewing, gardening, painting and doll houses.  She was a great cook, enjoyed quilting, scrapbooking, knitting, ceramics, cross stitching and Bible study.  She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  She loved her cats, Rosie and Pumpkin.

Claire is survived by her son, Steven Eighmy and his wife, Sylvia, of North Attleboro; son, Phillip Eighmy and his wife, Charlene, of Sarasota, Florida; son, Kevin Eighmy and his wife, Lea, of Ramona, Oklahoma; and Mark Eighmy and his wife, Misty, of Bartlesville; 14 grandchildren, (Steven’s) Jennifer, Christopher, (John’s) Shayna, Hannah, Olivia, (Phil’s)  Nicole, Amanda, (Kevin’s) Stephanie, Daniel, Benjamin, Rebecca, David and (Mark’s) Samantha and Andrew;  11 great-grandchildren; and sister, Doris Chabot.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; and her son, John Richard Eighmy.

Visitation for Mrs. Eighmy will be held on Thursday, May 9, from 9 AM-7:00 PM in the Arnold Moore & Neekamp Funeral Home.  Family will greet friends from 5:00-7:00 PM.  A Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM in the funeral chapel.

A Mass will be held on Friday, May 10, at 10:00 AM at St. John Before the Latin Gate Catholic Church, Bartlesville.  Interment will follow the service in Memorial Park Cemetery.
