Betty Richie

August 3, 1948 — April 13, 2021

Meade, Kansas

Betty Lee Ramsey Richie left her earthly home April 13, 2021 at Lone Tree Retirement  Center in Meade, Kansas.
Betty was born August 3, 1948 in Dodge City, Kansas to Craig A. and Ruth Ramsey of Plains, Kansas.  She grew up in Plains and attended Plains schools.  In 1964 Betty married Lowell Wriston and to this union was born a daughter, Lisa Marie in 1965.  Betty continued her education at the University of Kansas as a single parent. Upon her graduation from K.U. in 1975, Betty and Lisa moved to Denver, Colorado.  She began employment at Merrill Lynch where she met her future husband, Jim Richie.  They married in 1981 and created a blended family with their four children.  Jim and Betty enjoyed traveling together and visiting sites close to military bases around the world, as Jim had retired after a proud career in the military.  They shared 34 years together until Jim’s death in 2015.  Betty always described Jim as “the love of her life.”
Betty and Jim were faithful and active Christian members at the Lenexa Baptist Church.
After Jim’s death Betty found purpose helping others through the Disaster Relief Mission at Lenexa Baptist Church. She served with other Christians around the country in areas affected by disasters.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Craig A. and Ruth Ramsey, her sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Gene Conway, her daughter, Lisa Kelly and her husband, Jim Richie.
Surviving Betty are her brother, Craig R. Ramsey (Barbara) of Overland Park, KS , brother-in-law, Clark Richie (Shirley) Jay, OK, sister-in-law, Velma Icardy of Carrollton, TX and step-children, Noelle (Jared) Gedlaman of Jacksonville, FL, Julie (Greg) Tanner of Denver, CO and Tom Richie of Jacksonville, Fl (Chrissy Richie of Ponte Vedra, FL).
Betty leaves 6 precious grandchildren and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Anyone who met Betty felt her warmth, kindness and gentle Christian witness.  Her genuine love for the Lord was apparent in her words and actions.  Some of Betty’s final words exemplify her faith:  “I trust in You.”
Betty fulfilled her roles as a daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, cousin and friend with lovingkindness.  She touched many hearts and souls in her earthly life.
A memorial fund benefitting the Lenexa Baptist Church Disaster Relief Mission has been set up at Lenexa Baptist Church, 15320 W. 87th Parkway, Lenexa, KS, 66219. Checks may be made out to the Church with Betty Richie Memorial on the memo line.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.”
