Bennie Edward Starks, a cherished member of the Grove, Oklahoma community, passed away on January 11, 2026, at the age of 77. He was born on July 11, 1948, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and lived a life marked by strength, dedication, and a deep love for both his family and his country.
A proud veteran, Bennie served in the United States Navy as a Navy SEAL during the Vietnam War—an experience that helped shape his character and lifelong sense of duty. After returning home, he built a hardworking career in the oil and gas industry as a truck driver for Hamm & Phillips, where he was known for staying busy and giving every task his all. Bennie was also deeply committed to serving others through the American Legion, where he dedicated 17 years of service, further reflecting his lifelong devotion to his community and fellow veterans.
Bennie found joy in the simple pleasures of life and the great outdoors. He loved mowing yards, fishing, “cowboying,” working cattle, and riding horses. He especially enjoyed being out on the water, captaining his boat and creating countless memories along the way. Bennie was a man of all trades, was an excellent cabinet maker. Whether enjoying a cold beer or a Jack and Coke, while sitting on the back porch listening to Willies Roadhouse. Bennie knew how to savor life’s moments.
Family meant everything to Bennie. He is survived by his wife, Linda Ryan-Starks, and his nine children: Patricia Pound, Richard Pound, Troy Starks, Chrystal Wescoat, Denny Wescoat (Valerie), Danny Wescoat (Carin), James Starks, Jacob Starks, and Tosh Crowe. He was blessed with numerous grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Suzane Starks. His family was his greatest pride, and the love he gave them will live on through generations.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben F. and June Starks, and his sisters, Becky and Brenda Starks.
A memorial service will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove, Oklahoma. He will be remembered for his strong spirit, loyal heart, and the many lives he touched along the way.
