Barbara Scott

Mary Barbara Ann Fallingpot-Starr Scott, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2020.  Barbara was born in Claremore, Oklahoma to Lacy Fallingpot-Starr and Buelah Benton Hendren Fallingpot-Starr.  Barbara grew up in Eucha, Oklahoma before the City of Tulsa built Lake Eucha in 1952.  The family relocated to Rattlesnake Hollow where the family home still stands today.  Barbara was the second child born to Lacy and Beulah.  Barbara’s older sister was Betty Starr McCutchen who was 11 years older than her.  Barbara had two younger siblings, Floyd “Butch” Fallingpot-Starr, Velma “Sally” Fallingpot-Starr LaFayette and Joyce Jay Fallingpot-Starr who died at birth.

Barbara was a 1957 graduate of Jay High School.  In 1958, she met Arthur Calvin Scott at a Pow Wow dance in Seneca, Oklahoma.  They were married in Miami, Oklahoma on November 13, 1958.  Calvin and Barbara had three children, Beulah Leann Maher, Calvin Jay Scott and Kevin Grant Scott.  The family lived in Blackwell, Oklahoma then relocated to Bixby, Oklahoma.  Barbara was a hair dresser for many years, owning her own business which was run out of her home in Bixby.  She later became a dental assistant for Indian Health Services.  Barbara served on the Counsel for Cherokee Nation District 5 for many years ending her term in 2003.  Calvin and Barbara started the Lil Indian Smoke shop in Jay, Oklahoma and ran the family business with their son and daughter-in-law Jay and Rhonda Scott.

Barbara was very involved in the community and served on the Bank Board for Arvest.  She was involved with all things politics for Cherokee Nation.  It was her love and passion.  She was a strong Cherokee lady who loved the Cherokee people and heritage.  She loved to tell stories about being on the counsel for Cherokee Nation and traveling to numerous places and meeting new people.  One of her favorite hobbies was antiquing and shopping for Native jewelry in New Mexico.  Barbara got to spend many years watching her grandchildren grow up, as they all lived next door and across the street.  When her grandchildren were younger, she would take them to Branson, MO every summer.

Barbara is proceeding in death by her parents, Lacy Fallingpot-Starr and Bealuh Hendren Fallingpot-Starr, sister Betty McCutchen, brother Floyd “Butch” Starr, her husband Arthur Calvin Scott, sons, Kevin Grant Scott, Calvin Jay Scott, and daughter, Beulah Leann Maher.  She is survived by her sister Sally LaFayette, daughter-in-law Rhonda Scott, grandson, Justin Scott, granddaughters, Heather Maher, Blayze Scott and Phinny Scott, and great grandson Jordan Scott, four nephews, Billy McCutchen, Bob McCutchen, Joe Mills and Grant Starr, and two nieces Vicki Arms and Bobbie Reece.

Arrangements are under the direction of Worley Luginbuel Funeral Home.
